N-C carpet serger sewing machines are made in the USA and built based upon our famous 81200 mainframe, the best serger sewing machine we have seen. Designed to operate daily and last a lifetime, the 81200 class sewing serger is able to be set up in a variety of ways. In the 1950's we debuted our first carpet serger model and to this day those machines periodically arrive here at our plant in New Jersey for repair maintenance. Carpet serger sewing machines - or as they're called in Europe, carpet whipping machines - apply a fancy stitched edge that wraps around the carpet's border. Our rug serger machines are able to provide this stitch with or without a tape underlay. The binding tape underlay provides some very significant benefits to both the sewer and the consumer.
In 1990, N-C innovated the ability to apply tape underneath the carpet serged stitch in a single pass. The tape benefits the rug in several ways. For one thing, it compresses the carpet pile while the machine glides over the edge, thus never allowing the carpet pile to bust through the serge. This issue had plagued the industry for many years. To combat this, carpet workrooms were forced to serge twice to hide the carpet pile. In addition, it eliminates the need to bevel or shear high piled carpets. Both of these benefits are enormous time and expense savers. Equally important, the tape underlay is often the same color as the yarn. So if your rug or carpet runner is in a high traffic zone or say an aircraft interior, the carpet serging fibers will separate slightly. If the tape is the same color as the yarn, nobody will notice the separation.
In 2004, N-C Carpet Binding & Equipment Corp. invented "N-C Ultimate Cornering Technology" for our commercial serger machines. At the pleading of our aircraft, auto, marine, rv, and custom carpet design industry clients we developed the world's first ultimate cornering carpet serger. We called it the 81200AIR series, and it’s able to sew difficult inside turns and inside radiuses with absolute ease.
In January 2005, we debuted our Ultimate Cornering Portable Serger at the Surfaces tradeshow in Las Vegas. It was an instant hit, as for the first time carpet installers could now serge on the jobsite. Instead of only having table model machines, now anyone could buy a carpet serging machine, walk on the jobsite with this carpet tool in hand, and serge anywhere. The NCPS & NCPSAIR portable sergers are built based on our famous 81200 table model mainframe. So, you are basically getting the industrial strength N-C table model in a portable! Having access to a portable rug serger has greatly appealed to our flooring installers that don't have a large facility. With the N-C portable serger they can perform the same quality serge on the floor, home, road ...anywhere.
N-C also offers a full line of light duty sergers based on our 860 head. This series is our low-cost sewing serger that is able to serge at high speeds on commercial graded carpet. This commercial serger machine is customizable based on your application and has proven especially useful to bath mat manufacturers.
Typically you'll find a serged edge on high-end carpets or rugs, but recently serging is cropping up on carpet base, standard area rugs, sisals, berbers, and really any type of floor covering.
